Gnaphosidae Drassodes

"Drassodes" sp. "Mangrove Tawny"

Mangrove Tawny Ground Spider

The two species of gnaphosids on this page are provisionally parked under the genus Drassodes until the taxonomy of Southeast Asian gnaphosids is more thoroughly investigated. Both species are only remotely related to Drassodes, a genus represented mainly in temperate countries. Like Drassodes and its relatives, the two Singapore species are fairly large (6–9 mm) and have a uniformly coloured abdomen covered with smooth dense hairs. The female copulatory organs of the two Singapore species are similar to those of Drassodes and its relatives. However, whereas Drassodes and its close relatives have characteristically deeply notched trochanters. the trochanters of both Singapore species are only slightly notched.
